BCSC: Boulder City Senior Center

presented by: Victoria Mason, Executive Director

The Senior Center of Boulder City advocates for the Senior population of Boulder City, providing services to enhance and empower Seniors to live an independent, active lifestyle.

The center also helps seniors financially and physically in multiple areas.

SCBC provides meals to our homebound seniors, hosts a food pantry, among the many services available.

A time of need – the driving force for the SCBC’s visit to BBD was talk on the street regarding the financial status of the organization and their trajectory moving forward. We were all relieved to hear that the center is not in financial trouble, they are not at risk of closing, and they are okay for the moment.

It was brought to our attention that since re-opening, the donations that used to be in abundance are smaller and fewer in between, which is the cause for conversation.

Who is the BCSC:

A place where you can get in on a hand of Texas Hold’em played twice per week or a game of Bingo which happens three times per week.

Annual Membership is $15  and the only requisite is that you must be at least 50 years of age.

August is Senior Citizen Month, and on the 19th the SCBC will be hosting an Olympics event with Ribbons and Prizes!

The big event that SCBC is gearing up for next year is Rock, Roll & Stroll which is a community fundraising event where seniors can rock in a rocking chair, roll in their wheel chair, or stroll through the park. Local favorite Mike Pacini will be DJ’ing and the event is scheduled for Saturday, March 11, 2023 11am – 1pm in Bicentennial Park. In years prior, the SCBC was able to raise over $32k – and they have high hopes for this upcoming event as well.

Get involved:

If you would like to get in on a game of bingo or Sponsor a Senior’s Annual Membership – you are welcome.

Donations are always accepted.

Rhinoceros Success : the Secret to Charging Full Speed Toward Every Opportunity

by: Scott Alexander

Plan your escape – if you dread work every day, make plans to get out as fast as you can. You should feel fulfilled and motivated by the work you do everyday.

If a sheep or cow says to stop, continue on, you are obviously on the right path.

If a lion says to stop, proceed cautiously.

If another rhino says to stop, you may want to re-evaluate and stop heading in that direction.

Show that you are a rhino, and show how you are always of value. Give more of yourself and you will always get more back.

Each week, Taina Gude, VP of the Boulder Business Development Group updates the members on our progress toward our goals.

Since our groups fiscal year runs July – June, we took time today to identify our 2022 – 2023 SMART Goals as a group.

Below are the figures that we decided upon:

Membership: 40 Members

Attendance: 90%

Visitors: 12/month

Referrals: 90/month (3 each per member per month)

1-1 Sessions: 30/month (1 each per member per month)

Online Reviews: 750/month

Gross Revenue from Closed Business: $7,500,000

The Boulder Business Development Group operates under the umbrella of the Lions Club of Boulder City.

The Lions Club of Boulder City hosted a Fireworks Booth at the Rebel Gas Station just inside the city from July 1 – 4 this past summer. The proceeds from the Fireworks booth enable the Lions Club to help community members throughout the year on the several community initiatives that Lions Members participate in including Operation Christmas Child.

Operation Christmas Child takes place at Faith Christian Church located on Buchanan. The goal for the Lions has been to put together 100 boxes for boys and girls ages 3 – 18 all around the world.

The Fireworks Booth netted $9,320 for the Lions Club of Boulder City, and the results were announced in today’s meeting.
